ADIABATIC SUBCOOLING

Adiabatic condenser pre-cooling is a technology that uses water evaporation to cool the air before it enters the condenser. In our conditions, the air temperature is reduced by 6–12°C depending on the outdoor air temperature and humidity. This allows the cooling system to operate more efficiently during summer conditions, reducing electricity consumption and increasing cooling capacity.

Advantages of adiabatic condenser pre-cooling:

Reduces condensation temperature and consequently pressure → better and less strained compressor operation. Lower electricity consumption (often over 20% during peak loads). Short payback period. Increases the capacity of the cooling system – useful in summer when cooling demand is highest. Extends the compressor lifespan since it operates under lower load. Can be added to existing systems.

There are two types of adiabatic pre-cooling systems:

1. System with mesh – water curtain Ecomesh

2. System with water mist Ecomesh

System with mesh – water curtain

How it works: The system with mesh — that is, the mesh and nozzles — is mounted on the suction side of the condenser. When the air temperature rises above the set value, the water supply valve opens and water is sprayed from the nozzles toward the mesh, forming a water curtain. Some droplets evaporate before reaching the mesh, additionally cooling the air, while the rest reach the mesh and evaporate upon contact with the incoming warm air. The air passing through the “water curtain” is cooled by evaporation. The installed mesh also protects the condenser from dirt and debris.

Advantages: No direct contact between water and condenser, and does not require disassembly during winter conditions.

Application: Most commonly used for condensers/gas coolers installed on rooftops, whether horizontal or vertical.

System with water mist

How it works: A high-pressure piston pump pushes water through a special polyamide hose to nozzles that create very fine droplets (aerosol). The droplets almost completely evaporate before reaching the condenser fins. Due to the high limescale content in water in Serbia, water softening is mandatory before using these systems.

Advantages: Very efficient cooling, low water consumption, reduced scaling risk, no dripping, and suitable even for condensers installed on building facades.

Application: From supermarkets to large industrial systems; can also be used on condensers mounted on building facades in urban environments.
